How it works

Start small, practise often, and continue where you stopped.

Choose a starting point, take a guided lesson, bring it back from memory, and speak it aloud. Lessons take about ten minutes, and they go all the way to advanced Igbo.

Your learning path

What you do in Asụsụ Ọma.

Choose where to begin

Tell Asụsụ Ọma why you're learning and how much time you have each day. If you grew up around Igbo, a short placement check finds your level.

Learn in guided lessons

Each lesson shows the Igbo at work, recorded by native speakers, then asks you to use it. More than 600 lessons run from your first greeting to advanced Igbo.

Bring it back from memory

Review brings back what you're about to forget, and games like memory match and the talking drum turn the words you've learned into play.

Speak and compare

Record yourself and play your voice beside the native speaker. Conversations put you in everyday scenes to choose your reply.

Look up any word

Tap any Igbo word for its meaning and its sound, or open the Igbo dictionary of more than 800 words.

Keep going every day

A word of the day, a daily goal and your streak, on Android, iPhone and the web. Your progress follows you from one to the other.

Listening and speaking

Hear the language, then try it yourself.

The Igbo in the lessons is recorded by native speakers, with a slower replay when you need it. Record yourself, play it back beside the native speaker, and hear the difference. Conversations put you in everyday scenes, from meeting someone to the market, where you choose your reply.
